From petrol to electric: jaguar and range rover’s india plans revealed

Jaguar land rover is preparing for a major shift in india as the company gets ready to enter the electric vehicle space in a serious way. Till now, jlr’s entire indian lineup has relied on internal combustion engines. That is expected to change in 2026, when the brand plans to introduce two all-electric luxury models. These will be the jaguar electric 4-door gt and the Range rover electric.

These launches will mark jaguar land rover’s official return to the electric luxury segment in india, targeting buyers who want premium design, strong performance, and long driving range in an electric package.

Jaguar electric 4-door gt: what to expect

Jaguar is currently fast-tracking the development of its upcoming electric 4-door gt. The model is expected to make its global debut in late 2026, with the india launch likely to follow soon after. This new electric jaguar will be built on a dedicated EV platform known as JEA, which stands for jaguar electric architecture.

Production of the electric 4-door gt is expected to take place in solihull, united kingdom. According to reports from autocar uk, the car could offer a driving range of more than 700km on a single charge. Power output is expected to be close to 580hp, placing it among the most powerful electric luxury sedans in its segment.

Although official specifications are still limited, heavily camouflaged test mules spotted during testing in the uk have revealed key details about its proportions. The car appears long, low, and wide, with a strong road presence. The design will take inspiration from the jaguar type 00 concept.

Design highlights are expected to include an upright nose that flows into a long and flat bonnet, a sleek sloping roofline, and a short rear deck. Together, these elements create a classic four-door grand tourer silhouette, but with a modern and futuristic electric identity. Jaguar is positioning this model as a performance-focused luxury EV, aimed at reviving the brand’s sporty image in the electric era.

If development stays on schedule, the jaguar electric 4-door gt is expected to be launched in india in the second half of 2026.

Range rover electric: battery, range and charging

Alongside the new jaguar, land rover will also introduce its first fully electric range rover in india. After facing a significant delay, the range rover electric is now finally expected to arrive in 2026. This model will play a key role in jlr’s electric strategy, especially in the ultra-luxury SUV segment.

The range rover electric will use a large 118kWh battery pack with NMC chemistry. It will feature a dual-motor setup, with one motor on each axle, providing all-wheel drive capability. Combined power output is expected to be around 550hp, along with a massive 850Nm of torque.

One of the biggest highlights of the range rover electric is its 800V electrical architecture. This will allow ultra-fast charging speeds of up to 350kW. While the vehicle is yet to be officially homologated, range rover is targeting a WLTP driving range of approximately 530km.

In terms of styling, the electric range rover will remain very close to its ICE counterpart. Changes are expected to be minimal, limited mainly to subtle grille tweaks and EV-specific design elements. The interior will also remain largely unchanged, retaining the brand’s signature luxury, comfort, and premium materials.

Importantly, jlr has designed the electric powertrain in a way that it does not compromise cabin space or luggage capacity. Both standard wheelbase and long-wheelbase versions of the range rover electric are expected to be offered in india.

Expected pricing and market impact

The range rover electric is expected to be priced at around Rs 3 crore in india, making it one of the most expensive electric SUVs in the country. Pricing details for the jaguar electric 4-door gt will be announced closer to its launch.

With these two electric models, jaguar land rover aims to strengthen its presence in india’s fast-growing luxury EV market. The brand is clearly focusing on long range, strong performance, and familiar luxury, rather than radical design changes.

2026 is shaping up to be a very important year for jaguar land rover in india, especially for buyers looking to move into high-end electric vehicles without compromising on comfort, performance, or brand value.
